Meet Todd Garippa
I’m Todd Garippa, founder of NYC Top Tutors and a professional tutor helping students navigate mathematics and standardized tests since 2008.
I graduated from Midwood High School in Brooklyn in 2003 and later from Cornell University, where I began my studies in Electrical and Computer Engineering before transitioning to Applied Economics and Management.
I’ve worked with hundreds of students, from elementary school through college. My background across mathematics, literature, and history helps me teach both quantitative and verbal subjects with depth and clarity.

I believe effective tutoring goes beyond finishing assignments or memorizing formulas. Students benefit most when they understand why a method works and can apply what they’ve learned independently.
My teaching style is patient, structured, and encouraging. I break challenging concepts into manageable steps, adjust explanations to each learner, and use guided practice to develop lasting problem-solving skills.
For test preparation, I combine content mastery with strategies for pacing, accuracy, critical reading, and reasoning. I also communicate with families about progress and areas that need continued attention.

Individualized support in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics, AP mathematics, college mathematics, and New York State Regents courses.
Standardized Test Preparation
Comprehensive quantitative and verbal preparation, including reading comprehension, grammar, verbal reasoning, and writing for the SAT, ACT, SHSAT, SSAT, ISEE, HSPT, TACHS, GRE, and GMAT.
