AP Calculus BC has more advanced topics than AP Calculus AB, but the AP Calculus BC exam is easier to pass than the AB exam. Only 17.6% of AP Calculus AB test-takers earn a score of 5; whereas, 38.3% of AP Calculus BC test-takers earn a score of 5.

How is the AP Calculus AB exam scored?
Each section (multiple choice free response) is worth 50% of your grade. The multiple-choice questions are each worth 1.2 points, and the free response questions are each worth 9 points.
The exact formula for converting your raw score changes each year, but if you want a 5, you aim to get at least 70 points.
Should I report a score of 3 on the AP Calculus AB exam?
If applying to a top 20 university, don’t report a score less than 5.
As for other universities, use College Board’s AP Credit Policy Search to see if your AP scores could earn you college credit or advanced placement.

Is a 4 on AP Calculus AB good?
Most colleges will accept an AP Calculus AB score of 4 or 5 for some college credit. Check College Board’s AP Credit Policy Search to see which colleges you’re applying to will accept a score of 4.
